DURANGO, Colo. – October 10, 2014 – The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team battled back from a 2-0 first half deficit Friday afternoon against MSU Denver to net two goals in the second period and send the game to overtime. The Skyhawks eventually fell to the Roadrunners on Dirks Field, 3-2, on an own goal at 94:27.
The loss moves the Skyhawks to 7-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The #19 Roadrunners improve to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in league games.
MSU Denver's Pierce Galan and Dustin Berg each netted goals in the first half at 18:08 and 37:30 to take a 2-0 lead at the half.
Fort Lewis came back in the second half to knot the game.
Aaron Kloer made a pass into
Yannis Becker at 67:40 to cut the lead, 2-1. The goal was Becker's sixth of the season. In the 81
st minute,
Cesar Castillo found
Luke Lawrence who found the back of the net for the fourth time this season.
In the extra period, Danny Arrubla took a corner kick for the Roadrunners in the 94
th minute. A goal was scored after a Skyhawk defender attempted to clear the ball which resulted in an own goal.
Both teams notched 16 shots in the game. MSU Denver edged the Skyhawks with shots on goal, 7-5. Becker tied MSU Denver's Dustin Berg for a game high seven shots. Berg led both teams with three shots on goal.
The Skyhawks will play host to Colorado School of Mines Sunday afternoon at 2:30. The first 250 fans to the game will receive a free Skyhawks yellow rally towel.
