DURANGO, Colo. – October 3, 2014 – Senior
Cesar Castillo scored the game winning goal and added two assists to lead the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Adams State University Friday afternoon at Dirks Field.
The win improves the Skyhawks to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Adams State drops to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in league games.
Less than five minutes into the game, Castillo made a pass from the right side to
Yannis Becker who scored the goal from five yards out in the center of the goal. Eight minutes later at 12:13,
Austin Derksen made a long cross pass from the left and Castillo finished for the game-winning goal.
At 17:47, Castillo took a shot attempt from 10 yards out on the left side of box and
Tamino Kroeger crossed in to get foot on the ball to finish the goal.
In the 21
st minute, Becker passed the ball back to
Aaron Kloer who was 25 yards out. Kloer fired a shot in and scored, making it his goal of the season.
The Skyhawks held a 4-0 lead at halftime. A shutout was erased when a Skyhawk defender headed the ball for an own goal.
The Skyhawks recorded 15 shots to Adams State's seven. Nine of the shots landed on goal.
Zac Lawrence led both teams with four shots. Kroeger and
Luke Lawrence each recorded two shots on goal.
Ryan Schaul notched three saves and improves to 5-1 on the season.
Fort Lewis will travel to Colorado State University-Pueblo Sunday for a 1 p.m. match.
