LAKEWOOD, Colo. – October 3, 2014 – Freshman
Jessica Singleton's first career goal ended a 361 minute scoring drought for the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team. The goal proved to be the game-winner as the Skyhawks defeated Colorado Christian University at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, Colo., 1-0.
Prior to today's goal, the last time FLC netted a goal was Sept. 21 at New Mexico Highlands (W, 1-0). FLC's last three games have been 0-0 double overtime draws.
With the 1-0 win, Fort Lewis charted their fifth straight shutout of the season and sixth overall.
Singleton found the back of the net on a penalty kick at 11:22. Singleton and
Jordan Hix each recorded a team high two shots.
Fort Lewis outshot the Cougars, 10-4 (7-3 shots on goal).
Caitlyn Espinosa's three saves in goal led her to her fifth straight shutout of the season. In the last two seasons in goal, Espinosa has recorded 18 shutouts.
The Skyhawks (3-3-4, 2-1-3 RMAC) will play at University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Oct. 10. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
