DURANGO, Colo. – October 31, 2014 – Christine Silverstrone's first goal of the season led the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks to their first win of the season Friday afternoon. The goal proved to be the game-winning goal as the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in their final regular season home game.
The loss moves the Skyhawks to 6-6-5 on the year and 5-4-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Confe
rence. Prior to the game, the Skyhawks honored their lone senior on Senior Day, Shea Haycock.
Silverstrone attempted a shot in the 43rd minute which was saved by Skyhawks goalie Caitlyn Espinosa. A few seconds later, Silverstrone picked up the loose ball and scored from five yards out at 42:58.
CMU out-shot the Skyhawks by one, 13-12.
Brooke Milliet led both teams with three shots. She also added two shots on goal.
Espinosa stopped seven of eight shots on goal by Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks improve to1-12-4 overall and 1-9-3 in league games.
Fort Lewis will travel to Colorado School of Mines Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. match. Despite today's loss, the Skyhawks could still clinch a spot in the RMAC Tournament with a loss by UCCS or CSU-Pueblo this weekend, or a win or tie at CSM on Sunday.
