Women's Basketball Posts First RMAC Win

Skyhawks defeat Adams State, 71-46

DURANGO, Colo. – The first win of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season for the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team came Saturday afternoon when they posted a 71-46 victory over Adams State University at Whalen Gymnasium.
 
The win improves the Skyhawks to 1-2 in league games and 4-3 overall.  Adams State remains winless with a 0-3 RMAC record and 0-7 overall.
 
Redshirt-freshman Lynette Hepa had a career night for the Skyhawks.  Hepa came off the bench to score a career high 10 points on 4-of-8 field goals to go with her career high two blocked shots and career high eight rebounds. 
 
Trailing 10-3 nine minutes into the game, Turner made one of her eight three-point attempts to cut the lead to seven and spark a 16-2 run.  FLC took a 25-17 lead into halftime.  They started the second half out-scoring ASU 8-0 and held the Grizzlies without a field goal until almost four minutes into the half.
 
The Skyhawks led by as many as 25 points with 2:19 left in regulation and held the lead for 28 minutes.
 
The Skyhawks were led offensively by Michelle Turner who sank 4-of-9 field goals for 11 points (3-of-8 three-point field goals).  Kylie Santos and Kate Bayes each dished out a game high three assists.  Santos added a game high four steals and nine points.  Kaile Magazzeni pulled down a game high nine rebounds.  She also chipped in four points, an assist, one steal and blocked one shot.
 
Fort Lewis out-rebounded the Grizzlies, 59-37 (+22) and held ASU to a 20.3 field goal shooting percentage (14-of-69).
 
Fort Lewis will remain home Saturday and Sunday against Colorado Mesa University and Western State Colorado University.  Saturday's tip-off against the Mavericks is at 5:30 p.m.
