Turner Leads Skyhawks at CSU-Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. – Junior guard Michelle Turner scored a career high 12 points Saturday night to lead the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team offensively at Colorado State University-Pueblo.  The Skyhawks fell to the home team, 62-51.

"The two things that hurt us was that we didn't shoot great from the field or the free throw line," said Fort Lewis head coach Jason Flores.  "They went to the free throw line 32 times.  It's hard to overcome that at the end and on the road.  We have players having to carry the load for the first time and they're trying to find that rhythm on the road, plus we're playing good teams on the road.   Defensively we battled back; it was a good defensive  effort.   We're finally at home for a while.  We have to get back and climb back.  That's going to back our focus."

Saturday's loss moved Fort Lewis to 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Kylie Santos added nine points followed by Mary Brinton's eight points and five rebounds.  All nine field goal attempts and all four made field goals for Santos came from three-point range. Kaile Magazzeni contributed a team high nine rebounds and two blocked shots to go with her three points.

Fort Lewis made 19-of-55 field goals for 34.5 percent, 7-of-31 three-pot field goals (22.6 percent) and 6-of-15 free throws (40 percent) from the charity stripe).  The ThunderWolves attempted 32 free throws (20-of-32).The Skyhawks out-scored the ThunderWolves 22-10 in the paint but the Pack posted 15 points off of Skyhawk turnovers.

The Skyhawks led by as many as six points in the first half, but CSU-Pueblo would lead the game for the final 25 minutes.

Fort Lewis has played five of their first six games this season on the road.  They will return home to Whalen Gymnasium for a three-game homestand, beginning Dec. 13 against Adams State at 1 p.m.
