Skyhawk Notes
Regis is 0-4 in the month of February after ending January on a three game winning streak. The last time the two teams met was in Durango on Jan. 17 with the Skyhawks winning, 79-59.  Jarrett Green leads the Rangers offense with 14 points per game and is shooting at a 41.1 percent clip.  Seven Rangers are shooting at least 40 percent or better from the floor.  Conversely, the Rangers are ranked 14th in the league in three-point field goal percentage (30.5) and three-point field goal percentage defense (40.5).   Fort Lewis ranks second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, netting 41.2 percent from downtown.
Metro State is the top ranked team in the NABC poll.  The Roadrunners have won 18 straight games and are 21-1 on the season.  The 2013 NCAA Division II runner-up, Metro State leads the league in scoring defense with 64.4 points per game, which is 22.2 points fewer than the Skyhawks scoring average of 86.6 points per game, which is the third most in the league.
The Roadrunners are second in the league in scoring margin with 15.6 points per game, one spot up from the Skyhawks third place ranking of 9.0 points per game.  Metro State's Brandon Jefferson is the second highest scorer in the RMAC with 20.5 points per game, just 0.5 points more than Nick Tomsick.  MSU's Mitch McCarron and Nicholas Kay pull down the third and fourth most rebounds in the conference at 7.1 and 7.0 rebounds per game, respectively.  Alex Herrera is second in the league with 8.8 rebounds per game.
Fort Lewis is second in the league in assists per game with 15.3, three-point field goal percentage (41.2), blocked shots per game (4.9) and third in fewest fouls (433).
Alex Herrera ranks 3rd in the FLC record books with 193 blocked shots, 8th in free throws (286), and 12th in rebounds (538).  He is only 50 points away from joining the 1,000th point club.
In only his second season with the program, senior guard Nick Tomsick has dialed in from long distance 117 times, ranking him 14th all-time in the career record books.  He is averaging 2.6 made 3-point field goals this season, and shooting at a 42.9 percent clip.
Herrera has earned five RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors:  Feb. 10, Jan. 13, Jan. 6, Dec. 16, and Nov. 11.
Herrera has posted seven double-doubles this year and 20 in his  three years with the Skyhawks.  He ranks second in the league in double-doubles behind Colorado Mines' Trevor Wages (11).
Herrera has recorded 83 blocks so far this season, and needs one more to tie the single-season block record of 84, which he set last year.  He is also only 15 blocks away from tying Rich Hillyer's career record of 208 blocked shots.
Herrera leads the league and ranks second nationally in blocked shots per game (3.8) and total blocks (76).
Sophomore guard Kevin Flohr was named to the 2013-14 RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.  Flohr has a 3.87 GPA in Business Administration.
