DURANGO, Colo. – September 26, 2014 – Redshirt freshman
Malik Badawi's first goal of the season proved to be the game-winning goal as the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team defeated University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday afternoon at Dirks Field, 1-0. The shutout win was the Skyhawks second shutout win in three games (W, 2-0 at Adams State on Sept. 17, 2014).
Badawi found the back of the net at 62:25. His goal came off of a corner kick from
Austin Derksen. After two Skyhawk shot attempts in front of the goal, Badawi headed it into the back of the net.
The Skyhawks edged the Mountain Lions on shot attempts, 13-10. Both teams attempted seven shots on goal. The seven saves by
Ryan Schaul earned him his second shutout of the season as he improves to 4-0-0 in goal.
Cesar Castillo recorded a game high four shots.
Tamino Kroeger added three shots. Castillo and Kroeger each tallied two shots on goal.
Fort Lewis will return to Dirks Field Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against #12 Regis University. Admission to the game is free with a donation to the Global Down Syndrome Foundation or the Durango Special Olympics.
