DURANGO, Colo. – September 28, 2014 – The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team suffered their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference loss Sunday afternoon at Dirks Field. No. 14 Regis University defeated the Skyhawks, 3-1.
The loss moves the Skyhawks to 5-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the RMAC. RU improves to 6-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the league.
Both teams were tied after the first 45 minutes of action with the Skyhawks holding a 9-5 advantage on shot attempts and 5-1 on corner kicks.
The Rangers Sawyer Lincoln scored his first two goals of the season in the 59
th minute and 64
th minute. He then added an assist to Louis Barrow at 70:39 to give RU a 3-0 lead.
Luke Lawrence cut the lead to 3-1 when he netted he second goal of the season. Lawrence received a pass from
Yannis Becker from the left side of the goal and finished at 77:51.
The Skyhawks attempted 24 shots in the game but only nine landed on goal. Regis tallied 12 shots with seven landing on goal.
Tamino Kroeger led both teams with six shots (three on goal) and Becker added four shots (three on goal).
Ryan Schaul made four saves in goal. The three goals allowed contributed to his first loss of the season as he moves to 4-1-0 overall.
Fort Lewis will play host to Adams State University Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
