DENVER – January 16, 2015 – Regis University snapped the Fort Lewis College women's basketball two-game losing streak Friday night at Regis Fieldhouse in Denver, 63-52. The loss evens the Skyhawks Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record to 5-5 and 8-6 overall.
Despite trailing by 12 points during the first half, the Skyhawks cut the Rangers lead to four at the break, 27-23. Fort Lewis was held to only 25 percent field goal shooting in the first half, netting 7-of-28 from the floor and 0-of-7 from three-point range. The Skyhawks improved their second half shooting, hitting on 10-of-20 attempts to finish the game with a 35.4 percent field goal shooting mark (17-48).
Fort Lewis struggled from downtown, making 2-of-13 attempts for 15.4 percent.
Kylie Santos accounted for both of the Skyhawks threes to finish the game with 12 points.
Kate Bayes led FLC offensively with 14 points after making 5-of-13 field goals and 4-of-7 free throws. She also pulled down a team high nine rebounds.
Kaile Magazzeni converted on 3-of-7 field goals and all four free throw attempts for 10 points. She also accounted for two of the Skyhawks four blocked shots.
The Skyhawks, which never led during the game, committed 23 turnovers that resulted in 12 points for the Rangers. As a team, they dished out four assists, stole the ball four times and blocked four shots.
Fort Lewis out-scored the Rangers in the paint, 24-18, and on fast break points, 8-2.
The Skyhawks will face MSU Denver Saturday night at Auraria Event Center. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
