GOLDEN, Colo. – October 9, 2015 – For the first time in school history, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team defeated Colorado School of Mines on the Orediggers home turf. The Skyhawks, ranked No. 15 in the latest NSCAA poll, defeated No. 23 Colorado Mines, 2-1.
The win improves the Skyhawks to 9-2-1 overall on the season and 7-1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. It was the first time in seven games at CSM that Fort Lewis was victorious. The win also extended the Skyhawks winning streak to six games.
Courtney Riley scored her third goal of the season and the game's first goal at 47:33 from
Brooke Milliet's assist. The Orediggers tied the game at 60:29 before
Alicia Sanchez netted her fifth goal of the season at 66:06. Sanchez' game winning goal was her fourth of the season.
"Both off the goals were off of crosses that were very well done and picked out by our servers," said head coach
Jimmy Hall. "They did a good job getting to Courtney's and Cooper's (Alicia) feet so they could score for us."
The Skyhawks were held to four shots in the entire game, three of them landed on goal and two landed in goal. Seven of the Orediggers 11 shot attempts were on goal as
Caitlyn Espinosa made six saves between the posts.
Fort Lewis will wrap up their three game road trip Sunday at Colorado Christian University. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
