Skyhawks Defeat Nationally Ranked UCCS

DURANGO, Colo. – October 4, 2015 – Alicia Sanchez scored her third game-winning goal of the season Sunday afternoon to lift the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime win over nationally ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs. 
 
UCCS entered the game 7-2-1 overall and on top of the league standings with a 4-1-1 record.
 
The Skyhawks win was their fourth straight win, all of which have been at home, and their second straight 1-0 shutout win.
 
Sanchez' goal came just 13 seconds into overtime from Shayla Malecki's pass.  The goal was Sanchez' fourth of the season.
 
FLC tallied 20 shots against the Mountain Lions, 13 of which landed on goal.  Malecki led both teams with seven shots (five shots on goal).
 
Caitlyn Espinosa made nine saves in goal to post her fourth shutout of the season.
 
The win improves the Skyhawks to 7-2-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the RMAC.
 
FLC will play three road games next week, beginning Wednesday at Adams State, followed by a match at Colorado Mines on Friday and Colorado Christian on Sunday.
