DURANGO, Colo. – November 1, 2015 – Two penalty kick opportunities affected the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team as they fell to University of Colorado Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon at Dirks Field, 1-0.
The loss moves the Skyhawks to 11-5-2 overall and they close out the regular season with a 6-3-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record. The Skyhawks are the fifth seed in the tournament, which will begin Wednesday, Nov. 4.
After a scoreless first half, UCCS converted on a penalty kick at 65:01 to take a 1-0 lead. The Skyhawks had an opportunity to tie the game with 13 seconds left in regulation when a foul was committed inside UCCS' box, but the penalty kick went wide right.
Both teams attempted 18 shots in the game and an equal amount of shots on goal, 8-8.
Coleman Kane and
Tamino Kroeger each attempted three shots in the game.
The 2015 RMAC Men's Soccer bracket will be announced later tonight. The Skyhawks will travel to the No. 4 seed which will either be MSU Denver, Colorado Mesa or UCCS.
