Saturday will mark the final home game of the season for the Skyhawks as they take on Adams State University in the 49th annual Musket Game.

The Springfield .45-70 military issue rifle that serves as the traveling trophy between Fort Lewis College and Adams State University was donated in 1966 to the two athletic departments by Mahlon "Butch" White, who was involved with the First National Banks in both Alamosa and Durango, in memory of William White. The rifle is to be retained by the winning school at their annual football game. Traditionally, seniors from the winning team get to fire the rifle at the conclusion the game.

The last time the Skyhawks won the Musket Game was at home in 2013 (W, 27-24).

Adams State leads the Musket series 34-14-1.  ASU leads the overall series with Fort Lewis, 37-15-1.

Adams State enters the game with a 3-6 overall record and a 3-4 mark in conference games.  The Grizzlies are 1-3 this season when playing on the road.  Their lone road win came Oct. 24 at New Mexico Highlands (17-13).

Defensively, the Grizzlies are led by Ryan Holland with 57 tackles.  Quincy Davison leads ASU in sacks with 5.5 for a loss of 24 yards.

Fort Lewis College snapped a three game losing streak Saturday afternoon at Western State with a 39-24 road win.  The Skyhawks win also snapped the Mountaineers three game winning streak.

The win improves the Skyhawks to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season.  The last time FLC posted a five game winning season and four conference wins in a season was 2006 when the Skyhawks went 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the RMAC.

FLC's defense held the fourth leading rushing team in the RMAC to 124 yards on 30 carries, and the second leading rusher in the RMAC to 98 yards.  WSCU entered the game with 219.9 rushing yards per game, 183.7 of which came from Austin Ekeler.  Saturday was only the second time all season Ekeler did not have a rushing touchdown.

Fort Lewis recorded season highs at WSCU in rushing attempts (59), yards rushing (353), yards per pass (15.0), touchdown passes (3), and total offense (563).
