Women’s Basketball Plays Exhibition Game at BYU

PROVO, Utah – November 5, 2015 – Playing in their first competition of the season, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team fell to Division I Brigham Young University Thursday night in an exhibition game, 77-67.

"Obviously a tough opening exhibition games for us," said head coach Jason Flores.  BYU is an NCAA tournament team and a really good team and to play them within 10 points is really good.  We got to play everyone that made the trip.  We did a good job battling against them.  For the most part we take a lot of good things from this game."

After the first quarter, the Skyhawks trailed by only one point, 15-14, and only four points at the half, 37-33. BYU came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Skyhawks 29-17, but FLC outscored the Cougars 17-11 in the final quarter.

Kate Bayes led the Skyhawks with 14 points, one block and on steal.  Astrea Reed chipped in 13 points and a steal.

FLC made 37.5 percent from the floor (21-56) and 75.0 percent from the free throw line (22-29).

BYU was led by Makenzi Pulspher who netted 17 points and made all 10 free throw attempts.

The Skyhawks will play at the University of Utah at 7 p.m. tomorrow night in another exhibition game.
