Men’s Basketball Defeats #15 Colorado Mines, 64-53

DURANGO, Colo. – December 11, 2015 – For the second straight year in a row, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team has upset nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines in Whalen Gymnasium.  The Skyhawks handed the 15th-ranked Orediggers a 64-53 loss Friday night.
 
The last time the Orediggers scored fewer than 53 points was Jan. 31, 2009 in a 54-49 loss to Metro State.
 
The win improves FLC to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The loss moves CSM to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in league games.
 
Joshua Blaylock led all scorers with 19 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the floor and 6 of 7 from the free throw line.  Cade Kloster made 4 of 8 field goals as part of his 12 points and Rasmus Bach sank 3 of 7 from the floor for 10 points.  Austin Haldorson led both teams with seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
 
The Skyhawks led by as many as 18 points in the second half, and held the lead for over 35 minutes.  The Skyhawks outscored CSM in the paint (18-12) and off of turnovers (8-5).
 
For the night, the Skyhawks shot 40.8 percent in field goals (20-49), 40.9 percent from long range (15-19), and 78.9 percent from the charity stripe (15-19).
 
The Orediggers finished the game shooting 31 percent form the floor and 34.8 percent from behind the arc.  FLC held CSM to a 25 field goal shooting percentage in the first half and 15.4 percent from long range.
 
Fort Lewis will play host to Colorado Christian University Saturday night.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
