Men’s Basketball Hold Off Mountaineers, 85-75

GUNNISON, Colo. – December 19, 2015 – Senior guard Joshua Blaylock made a basket to give FLC a 2-0 lead Saturday night at Western State Colorado University .  The Skyhawks would not relinquish the lead as they held off the Mountaineers to earn their second straight road win, 85-75.

With the win, the Skyhawks improve to 9-1 on the season and 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The nine wins are the most ever in the history of the program heading into the Christmas break.

"I credit them because they played so hard," said head coach Bob Pietrack.  "It so extremely hard to go back to back on the road in this league.  It's a gutty road win on the backend of the weekend.  We had to go full wire to get the win; credit to Western State, they played really hard."

FLC's lead was cut down to three points with 4:33 left in regulation, 64-61, before the Skyhawks closed the game outscoring WSCU, 21-14.

Blaylock led both teams with 21 points after making 5 of 9 field goals, 2 of 4 three-point field goals and 9 of 10 free throws. He also pulled down five rebounds.  Cade Kloster and Will Morse each netted 16 points with Morse dishing out a game high five assists.  Rasmus Bach and Kody Salcido rounded out the five Skyhawks to score in double digits with their 12 points each.  Salcido made 5 of 6 from the floor and tallied a team high seven rebounds.

The Skyhawks forced WSCU into committing 23 turnovers while FLC turned the ball over 13 times, but the Skyhawks were outrebounded 29-19.

FLC netted 51.1 percent from the floor (25-48), 42.1 percent from long range (8-19), and 75 percent from the free throw line (27-36).

Fort Lewis will play host to UCCS on Jan. 1 at 4 p.m. and MSU Denver on Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
