LAS VEGAS – February 15, 2015 – Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Fort Lewis College softball team tallied two runs to cut Lubbock Christian University's lead to 4-2, but the Skyhawks were held scoreless in the final two innings to fall to LCU, 7-2.
"It was a tough weekend for us," said head coach
Kira Zeiter. "We were able to see where we are strong and where we need to work this week before conference begins. We were not happy about our results but are looking forward to rebounding next weekend at home."
Adriana Rosthenhausler started the fifth inning with a double down the left field line. She was batted in off of
Myndee Thompson's triple down the right field line. Two batters later,
Tristen Gilbert grounded out to the short stop but drove in Thompson for the Skyhawks second run of the game.
Thompson led the offense with two hits as the Skyhawks recorded five for the game. Rosthenhausler,
Lauren Caldwell and
Tehenia Telliano also added one hit.
Victoria Johnson started the game in the circle. She allowed four runs (three earned ) on four hits in the first two innings before
Kiley Raica entered the game. Raica allowed three runs on five hits in the final five innings. Johnson and Raica each struck out two batters.
The Skyhawks will open their home season and the Rocky Mountain Atheltic Conference season this Saturday and Sunday at Aspen Field against Black Hills State University.
