Rios Collects Four Hits in Skyhawks Softball Sweep

Skyhawks sweep Chadron State, 5-2 and 8-4

DURANGO, Colo. – March 14, 2015 – Jeovanna Rios accounted for four hits, six runs batted in and crossed home plate four times to lead the Fort Lewis College softball team to a sweep at Aspen Field Saturday afternoon against Chadron State College, 5-2 and 8-4.  With the sweep, the Skyhawks remain undefeated at home with a 6-0 record.

"It's always good to get two wins," said head coach Kira Zeiter.  "There are things we want to improve on tomorrow like our jumps and bunts.  But it is good to be back on our field in the nice weather and continue to play hard."

Chadron State (3-19, 3-7 RMAC) jumped on the scoreboard first in game one after hitting back-to-back home runs to start off the top of the second inning.  In the bottom of the second, Rios hit a double to center field and scored the Skyhawks first run of the game off of Mandy Owens' double.

FLC (10-11, 8-2 RMAC) plated four more runs in the bottom of the third inning.  With one out, Missy Fundora drew a walk to reach first base.  The next batter, Adriana Rosthenhausler, reached base on a throwing error and advanced to second base.  With runners on second and third, Myndee Thompson hit a single to center field to score Fundora and Rosthenhausler.  Thompson stole second and then advanced to third on a passed ball.  Rios brought Thompson home and scored a run herself after hitting her fourth home run of the year.

The Skyhawks led the Eagles 5-2 after three innings as both teams remained scoreless in the final four innings.

Victoria Johnson threw a complete game to earn her sixth win in the circle.  Johnson allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out three batters.

Rios and Owens each posted two hits in the first game.  Thompson and Rios drove in two runs each and Rios crossed home plate twice.

In game two, Kiley Raica worked all seven innings to post her fourth win of the season.  She finished the game allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits and fanning five batters.

FLC started game two with three runs in the first inning.  Fundora singled to the shortstop and moved to second base after Rosthenhausler hit a single to left field.  Rosthenhausler and Fundora each advanced one base on a passed ball.  Rios hit a single to the shortstop and advanced to second base while Fundora scored.  Tristen Gilbert brought home Rosthenhasuler and Rios off of a single to center field for the Skyhawks third run of the inning.

CSC cut the lead to 3-1 when Katelyn Kruger batted in Amanda Einspahr.

The Skyhawks responded with another four-run inning in the bottom of the second.  Kaitlyn Bending started the inning with a single and then stole second base.  Fundora drove Bending home off of a single.  Rosthenhausler reach based on a single and advanced one base with Fundora after Thompson hit a sacrifice fly to right field.  Rios hit her second home run of the day to score Rosthenhausler and Fundora to wrap up the four run inning.

Gilbert added the Skyhawks eighth and final run of the game when she singled to the pitcher in the bottom of the fourth that scored Thompson.

The Eagles added two more runs in the fifth and one in the seventh but fell short, 8-4.
