Carpenter Scores Four Goals in 10-5 Win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – March 23, 2015 – Led by Ellie Carpenter's season high four goals, the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team recorded a 10-5 win at Davenport University (NAIA) in Grand Rapids, Mich. Monday afternoon.
 
The win improves the Skyhawks to 4-1 overall and their third straight victory.  The loss for DU was their first this season as they move to 5-1 overall.
 
Davenport notched a two goal lead in the opening 14 minutes of action.  Ellie Carpenter put the Skyhawks on the board at 12:25 followed by Mac Harper's game-tying goal at 9:34.  Carpenter scored the go-ahead goal at 6:55 before DU tied the game at 3-3 31 seconds later.  Carpenter and Jam Vertner closed out the half with back-to-back goals to give FLC a 5-3 lead at the half.
 
Fort Lewis outscored DU in the second half, 5-2.  Three of the Skyhawks goals came from Sara McMahon who has now tallied three hat tricks in five games and leads FLC with 11 goals.  Brooke Galle chipped in her fifth goal of the season and Carpenter closed the game with her fourth goal of the game with 35 seconds left in regulation.
 
Carpenter led the Skyhawks in goals (four), shots (eight, tied with McMahon), ground balls (eight) and draw controls (three).  Megan Longtain was second on the team in ground balls with five and Carly Smoke and Rebecca Miller each added three.  Brie Walker recorded her third win of the season after making two saves in goal in 51 minutes of action.
 
The Skyhawks posted 29 shots in the game and held Davenport to 10 shots.  FLC scooped up 28 ground balls to DU's 16, and FLC won nine of the seven draw controls.
 
Fort Lewis will continue their three-game road swing in Michigan Tuesday at Aquinas College.  Game time is slated for 2 p.m. (MDT).
