DURANGO, Colo. – April 24, 2015 – After a 75-minute weather the delay, junior
Ellie Carpenter and the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team handed Adams State University a 16-5 loss Friday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field. The Skyhawks closed out the regular season with a 9-4 overall record and a 4-2 league record.
Carpenter led both teams with four goals, three of which came in the first half.
Sara McMahon followed with three goals and
Taylor Cabrera added two goals.
Ten different Skyhawks found the back of the net. Recording one goal apiece against the Grizzlies were
Katlyne Duffey,
Carly Smoke,
Megan Longtain,
Nikki Fry,
Rebecca Miller,
Brooke Galle and
Mac Harper.
Ally Guerrero earned her fourth win in goal, making four saves in the first 30 minutes of action. She nearly held the Grizzlies without a goal in the first half but they scored their first goal with nine seconds left in the half.
Brie Walker played all 30 minutes in the second half, making three saves and allowing four goals.
Fry led the Skyhawks with three draw controls and she added three ground balls. Longtain accounted for a team high four of the Skyhawks 17 ground balls.
Fort Lewis outshot the Grizzlies, 26-17 and picked up 17 ground balls to ASU's 11. The Skyhawks were 5-for-9 on free position attempts.
The Skyhawks are the No. 3 seed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and will face No. 2 seed Regis University on Saturday, May 2. Game time is to be determined.
