DURANGO, Colo. – April 3, 2015 – Seven runs on eight hits in the first inning resulted in a 7-6 win for the Fort Lewis College softball team Friday afternoon at Aspen Field against Metro State University Denver. The win came in game two of Friday's doubleheader; the Roadrunners won game one, 12-2 in six innings.
"It was a good team win today," said head coach
Kira Zeiter. "We are really proud of how our pitchers fought today, and that we came out on fire in game two with the bats. We will use this momentum going into tomorrow's games."
Missy Fundora led off for the Skyhawks in the first inning with a single to center field.
Myndee Thompson drove her home for the first run of the game.
Jeovanna Rios drew a walk followed by
Tristen Gilbert's single to center field to score Thompson.
Mandy Owens then hit a single up the middle to load the bases.
Nikki Klepfer was hit by a pitch that brought in the third run of the game (Rios).

Batting for the second time in the first inning, Fundora singled to left center to score Klepfer before
Adriana Rosthenhausler singled to left field to score Fisher. The Skyhawks closed the inning with back-to-back outs by the Roadrunners.
The Skyhawks were held to three hits in the next five innings but held onto the win, 7-6.
Olivia Goldberg started in the circle in game two for the Skyhawks and pitched five complete innings. She allowed six runs on seven hits.
Victoria Johnson closed out the game, holding the Roadrunners to two hits.
Fundora, Klepfer and Fisher each posted two hits in game two. Klepfer went 2-for-2 with one run and one run batted in.
In Friday's opening game, the Roadrunners plated two runs in the first inning and added six runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth inning.
Both of the Skyhawks runs came from Thompson who hit two home runs. Thompson finished the game going 2-for-3. Rios accounted for three of the Skyhawks eight hits after going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Johnson allowed 10 runs on nine hits and struck out one batter.
Fort Lewis (13-20, 11-11 RMAC) will face off against the Roadrunners (24-10, 15-5 RMAC) Saturday morning in doubleheader action beginning at 11 a.m.
