LAS VEGAS, N.M. – September 26, 2015 – For the first time in school history, the Fort Lewis College football team has was three straight games by scoring 40 or more points. The Skyhawks defeated New Mexico Highlands University Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas, N.M., 49-7, in the Cowboys Homecoming game.

The Skyhawks three game winning streak started Oct. 12 with a 41-20 home win over Oklahoma Panhandle State University, followed by last week's 48-7 home win over Black Hill State University.  In three games against Division II teams, the Skyhawks are outscoring their opponents, 46.0-11.3 points per game.

Fort Lewis' 2-0 start in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference is the first time the Skyhawks have started 2-0 in the RMAC since 1997.

The Skyhawks first score of the game was set up by Andrew Ike's interception.  Ike intercepted NMHU at the 32-yard line and returned it 18 yards. One play later, PJ Hall rushed in from 14 yards to give FLC a 7-0 lead at 6:44 in the first quarter.

Ike had a hand in the Skyhawks next score when he forced a fumble on NMHU's 18 yard line which was recovered by Theo Chambers who ran it in for a score to give the Skyhawks a 14-0 lead with 13:37 left in the first half.

FLC's defense held NMHU to three-and-out on the ensuing drive.  Nine plays and 88 yards later the Skyhawks found the endzone for the third time in the game.  Quarterback Jordan Doyle ran three times for 43 yards and completed 4-of-5 passes for 43 yards to lead the charge down the field that gave FLC a 21-0 lead.  His final throw of the drive was a 15-yard strike to Austin Shaw.

The Cowboys scored their lone touchdown of the game with 4:30 left in the half to cut the Skyhawks lead to 21-7.

Fort Lewis added one more touchdown before the half when Juquelle Thompson returned a punt 75 yards for to give FLC a 28-7 lead heading into halftime.

The Skyhawks opening drive of the second half turned into their fifth touchdown of the day.  The drive started on the Skyhawks own 29-yard line with Doyle completing a pass to LyDell Williams for three yards.  Hall then rushed for four yards to the FLC 32 yard line.  On third-and-three, Doyle threw an incomplete pass but a NMHU pass interference penalty gave the Skyhawks a first down on their 47-yard line.  Allen Thigpen finished the drive with a 53 yard run into the endzone at 13:32 in the third quarter.

Hall scored his second touchdown of the game as time expired in the third quarter for a 42-7 FLC lead.

FLC forced NMHU to punt for the sixth time of the game on the Cowboys opening fourth quarter drive.  The Skyhawks only drive of the fourth quarter lasted nearly four minutes as FLC ran seven plays for 65 yards.  Gabe Ogbonnaya, Jr. scored the final touchdown of the game for FLC and his third of the season to seal the win, 49-7.

NMHU's last drive of the game lasted over seven minutes as they were unable to put any points on the board.
