Alicia Sanchez found
Courtney Riley who found the back of the net from the left side of the box to lift the Skyhawks to a season opening win at Midwestern State University, 1-0.
Riley scored the game-winning goal at 71:58.
The Mustangs doubled the Skyhawks on shots, 20-10 (6-4 shots on goal). MSU's Nicole Coetzer led all players with five shots.
Carolyn Archer, Sanchez and
Shayla Malecki each fired off two shots against the Mustangs. Both of Malecki's shots were on target.
Caitlyn Espinosa recorded her 23
rd career shutout after making six saves in 90 minutes of action. Espinosa ties Bree Baker for the career school record in shutouts.
Fort Lewis (1-0-0) will face Texas Woman's University Saturday at 10 a.m. (MDT) in Wichita Falls, Texas.
