WICHITA FALLS, Texas – September 4, 2015 –
Laurin Weiland's first career goal from 25 yards out proved to be the lone goal for the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team in their season opening game at Midwestern State University. The Skyhawks fell to No. 20 MSU in Wichita Falls, Texas, 3-1.
After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs went up 2-0 within a five minute stretch in the second half. Weiland's goal at 63:18 cut the lead to 2-1 before Gabriel Cavalcante sealed the win for MSU at 87:50.
The Skyhawks were outshot, 20-5, and 8-2 shots on goal.
MSU's Albert Rodriguez led both teams with one goal, an assist, five shots and two shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Ryan Shaul stopped five of eight shots on goal.
The Skyhawks return to action on Sunday at No. 12 St. Edwards's University at 11 a.m.
