GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – January 15, 2016 – Colorado Mesa University handed the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team their third straight loss Friday night from Brownson Arena in Grand Junction, Colo., 58-50. The loss moves the Skyhawks to 8-7 overall and 4-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CMU improves to 9-5 overall and 6-4 in league games.
"It was a tough game on the road," said head coach
Jason Flores. "We had a lead and didn't finish the game with great defense or rebounding. Not having Mary (Rambo) hurt but we needed to battle harder on the boards. We missed some easy looks that would have kept the momentum going but we need to learn to finish teams when we get the lead."
FLC led after the first quarter, 11-6, but was outscored in the second quarter, 18-12, to trail 24-23 at halftime. Both teams netted 16 points each in the third quarter before CMU finished the final quarter to outscore FLC, 18-11.
Astrea Reed and
Dallas Dickerson each netted 14 points for Fort Lewis.
Alyssa Yocky recorded her first career start and pulled down 10 rebounds to go with her seven points.
The Mavericks Bryanna Adams led all scorers with 25 points. Laurin Rivera added 10 assists and Erika Mustante pulled down 18 rebounds.
FLC was outrebounded, 48-35, but the Skyhawks bench outscored CMU, 23-9.
The Skyhawks will play at Westminster College Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
