DURANGO, Colo. – October 1, 2016 – After dropping the first two sets of the match, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team came back to win the final three sets and defeat Western State Colorado University, 3-2, Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium.
The win snapped a three game losing streak for the Skyhawks as they improve to 3-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 4-10 overall. WSCU evens out their record at 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the league.
Bailey Longacre and
Laine Waters each assisted on four blocks as the Skyhawks combined for nine team blocks against the Mountaineers. Waters finished with five blocks (one solo) and hit .429 at the net with seven kills on 14 attempts (one error).
Matisse Monty added a team high 14 kills and 13 digs.
Kendra Swackenberg tallied 38 assists and eight digs while
Ally Dell'Amico notched a team high 20 digs.
WSCU posted 54 kills to the Skyhawks 43, but committed 39 hitting errors and 14 service errors.
The Skyhawks will play their next six matches on the road, beginning next Friday at Colorado Mines and next Saturday at Colorado Christian University.
