Football Heads to Pueblo to Face ThunderWolves

LAST TIME OUT
Fort Lewis College is coming off a 13-6 home loss on Homecoming to Western State Colorado University.

All 13 points scored by the Mountaineers came off of turnovers.

The first six drives of the game for both teams ended with each team having to punt. 

The Skyhawks ran 60 plays for 258 yards, 160 of which came on the ground, while WSCU was penalized 11 times for 163 yards.

Senior running back Drake Griffith ran for a career high 165 yards on 30 carries.  Quarterback Bo Coleman completed 6-of-15 passes for 98 yards and one touchdown. 

Cory Witt led FLC's defense with nine tackles.  OJ Thompson added seven tackles, two fumble recoveries, a half sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss of one yard.

FLC's defense held Austin Ekeler to a season low 85 rushing yards on 23 carries.  Ekeler leads all NCAA Division I, II and III schools with 1.080 yards through the first six games.

Saturday was the first time all season the Skyhawks did not possess the ball more than their opponent.  WSCU had the ball for 43 more seconds than the Skyhawks.

LOOKING AHEAD
After playing three straight home games for the first time since 2003, the Skyhawks will hit the road this weekend and play at Colorado State-Pueblo.

The Skyhawks enter the weekend tied for ninth place in the RMAC standings with a 1-5 league record (1-5 overall).  The ThunderWolves are tied for fifth place with a 3-2 record (3-3 overall).  The last time CSUP suffered at least three losses in a season was 2009 (7-4, 6-3 RMAC).

FLC and CSUP are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the league in total defense (CSUP - 349.2 yards, FLC - 352.3 yards), rushing defense (CSUP - 70.2 yards, FLC - 119.5 yards), and kick off coverage (CSUP - 40.9 yards, FLC - 40.1 yards).  

The Skyhawks continue to lead the league in time of possession (33:39) with a 1:28 minute margin over Dixie State (32:11).

After ranking ninth in NCAA Division II in turnover margin last season (+13), the Skyhawks are ranked 164 out of 170 through the first six games (-10).  FLC has lost 16 turnovers this season (eight fumbles, eight interceptions).
 
OJ Thompson is tied for the league high in fumble recoveries (two).

Jordan Gillen has caught the third most touchdowns in the league with five.

Linebacker Andrew Ike has the sixth most tackles in the league.  Ike is averaging 8.3 tackles per game.  Nineteen of his 50 tackles have been solo stops.

Coleman is ranked in the top 10 in the league in passing touchdowns (third, 10), points responsible for (fourth, 78), passing yards (ninth, 783) and total offense (ninth, 167.3).

Colorado State-Pueblo's rushing defense of 70.2 yards per game is the fifth best in Division II.  The ThunderWolves are also ranked in the top 10 in Division II in fourth down conversions (seventh, 75 percent), defensive touchdowns (seventh, three), and blocked punts (eighth, two).
