PUEBLO, Colo. – October 15, 2016 –
Dominick Barnett caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from
Bo Coleman on the opening drive to give the Fort Lewis College football team a 6-0 lead at Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks were held scoreless until the fourth quarter as the ThunderWolves handed FLC a 33-12 setback.
FLC drops to 1-6 overall and 1-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Pack improve to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in league games.
CSU-Pueblo converted a 20-yard field goal on their opening drive of the game followed by a touchdown on the ensuing drive to take a 10-6 lead after one quarter of action.
The Pack scored on their third straight drive of the game to open the second quarter and take a 17-6 lead over FLC that they carried into halftime.
The ThunderWolves lead expanded to 24-6 at 5:28 in the third quarter. The Skyhawks next drive resulted in a lost fumble but the Skyhawks defense responded with an interception by
Dre Cortez on FLC's one-yard line. CSUP added two more points two plays later when
PJ Hall was tackled in the end zone, resulting in a safety and a 26-6 lead for CSUP.
Coleman cut the lead down to 26-12 when he rushed in from three yards out to cap an 18-play, 88-yard drive that lasted over 10 minutes.
On the Skyhawks second to final drive of the game, FLC's attempt to covert on fourth-and-21 on their own eight yard line fell short. One play later the Pack scored from eight yards out to seal the win, 33-12.
The Skyhawks recorded 328 yards of total offense on 67 plays and possessed the ball for more than 37 minutes. FLC was in the red zone twice, converting once for a touchdown. CSUP went 5-for-5 on redzone scores.
Coleman completed 13-of-21 passes for 155 yards and one score (two interceptions). He also led FLC in rushing with 86 yards and one touchdown.
Joseph Cavale averaged 52.4 yards on five punts, including a long of 67 yards.
The Skyhawks defense was led by
Cory Witt who had 10 tackles.
Ryneal Lewis-Adams added six tackles, one tackle for a loss of nine yards, two pass breakups and a sack for nine yards.
Fort Lewis College will return to Ray Dennison Memorial Field Oct. 22 to play Western New Mexico University in a none-conference game. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
