LAST TIME OUT
A 27 minute differential in time of possession helped the Fort Lewis College football team to their first home win of the season Saturday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field. The Skyhawks defeated Western New Mexico University in a non-conference matchup, 52-14.
FLC had possession of the ball for nearly 44 minutes Saturday afternoon.
The last time FLC scored at least 52 points was Nov. 16, 2002 in a 58-55 loss at Colorado Mesa University. That season, the Skyhawks scored 67, 62 and 55 points in their final three games.
Five of the Skyhawks 13 drives started in Mustang territory.
After a slow first quarter start, the Skyhawks finished with 450 yards of total offense on 81 plays. The Skyhawks defense forced six turnovers by the Mustangs, resulting in 24 points.
WNMU's last five drives of the game ended in turnovers (fumble, two interceptions, two turnovers on downs).
Bo Coleman completed a career high 20 passes on a career high 28 attempts for a career best five touchdowns. His 233 passing yards are the second most this season.
Drake Griffin eclipsed the century mark in rushing yards for the fifth time this season. He carried the ball 23 times for 104 yards. Griffin needs 134 rushing yards to become the fourth Skyhawk in program history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
Joseph Cavale accounted for 10 points after making a 22-yard field goal and going 7-for-7 in extra point attempts. He also averaged 47.0 yards on three punts, and 62.9 yards on nine kickoffs (three touchbacks), earning him RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Six of
Andrew Ike's team-leading tackles were solo stops.
OJ Thompson added four tackles, 1.5 sacks for three yards, 2.5 tackles for a loss of four yards and one forced fumble.
LOOKING AHEAD
Fort Lewis College will travel to Rapid City, S.D. to face South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. The game will mark only the second time the two teams have faced each other, and the first time in Rapid City.
The Skyhawks won the first and only meeting between the two teams. FLC recorded a 48-30 win over the Hardrockers on Sept. 3, 2011 in Durango, Colo.
The Hardrockers are tied for sixth in the league standings with a 4-3 record (5-3 overall).
STATS LINEUP
As a team, Fort Lewis is ranked in the top five in the RMAC in rushing defense (second, 123.1 yards), total defense (third, 340.6 yards), punting (second, 35.4 yards), rushing offense (third, 233.8 yards), pass efficiency (second, 151.1) and pass defense (fourth, 217.4 yards).
The Skyhawks continue to lead the league in time of possession (35:21), holding more than a three minute lead over the next team.
Bo Coleman has the third best passing efficiency in the RMAC with a 168.8 mark. He also ranks seventh in total offense with 188.1 yards per game.
Two of the top RMAC rushers hail from FLC.
Drake Griffin is third in the league with 109.5 rushing yards per game (two touchdowns) and
PJ Hall is 10th with 71.8 yards per game (two touchdowns).
Griffin has tallied 876 rushing yards this season. He needs to average at least 41.3 rushing yards over the final four games to eclipse the 1,000 career rushing mark.
Linebacker
Andrew Ike has the fifth most tackles in the league. Ike is averaging 8.4 tackles per game. Twenty-six of his 67 tackles have been solo stops.
Joseph Cavale leads the RMAC in punting with a 43.1 average (1,165 yards-27 punts).
