DURANGO, Colo. – October 28, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated New Mexico Highlands University Friday night in Whalen Gymnasium, 3-0, snapping a six match losing streak. The win was also the Skyhawks first sweep of the conference season.
FLC improves to 5-16 overall and 4-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. NMHU drops to 5-13 overall and 2-11 in the conference.
The Skyhawks recorded several three-set match highs Friday night, including most kills (45), most assists (42) and most digs (62). FLC's .272 hitting mark (45 kills, 14 errors, 114 total attempts) was the second highest all season and the highest hitting percentage in a conference match.
Kendra Swackenberg notched a season high for the Skyhawks in a three-set match with 34 set assists.
Bailey Longacre and
Emily Dellenbach led the Skyhawks with 11 kills each. Longacre hit .474 at the net after committing only two errors on 19 attempts, and Dellenbach hit .375 with two errors on 24 attempts.
Leading the back row defense was
Delaney Scanlan with 16 digs. Swackenberg added 12 and
Hannah Martinez posted 11 digs.
Defensively at the net, the Skyhawks tallied six team blocks behind
Laine Waters' one solo block and four block assists.
The Skyhawks will play host to Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday night at 5 p.m.
