Women’s Soccer Wins First Meeting with BHSU, 3-0

DURANGO, Colo. – October 7, 2016 – For the first time in school history, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team competed against Black Hills State University.  The Skyhawks won the match, 3-0, Friday afternoon at Dirks Field.  This is the first season the Yellow Jackets have competed in women's soccer at the NCAA Division II level.
 
FLC improves to 6-4-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. BHSU drops to 1-9-0 overall and 0-5-0 in RMAC games.
 
Alicia Sanchez found the back of the net for the fifth time this season at 17:32 on a free kick from 20 yards out, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
 
Andonia Apergis found Keisha Green who dribbled down the right sideline and made a sliding kick for the second goal of the game at 36:40, and her first goal of the season.
 
Emma Patron sealed the win at 43:48 when she won the ball and took a shot from 25 yards out for her first career goal.
 
The Skyhawks out-shot Black Hills State, 34-4, including 14-1 shots on goal. 
 
Shayla Malecki led both teams with six shots (two shots on goal).  Carolyn Archer added five shots (two shots on goal), while Sanchez and Renee Terrell each attempted three shots.
 
Kaylee Mickens made one save in 90 minutes between the posts for her first shutout of the season.
 
The Skyhawks will play at Colorado Mesa University on Oct. 14 and at Westminster College on Oct. 16.
