PORTALES, N.M. – November 11, 2016 – Trailing by as many as 11 points in the second quarter, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team stormed back in the second half to defeat Texas-Permian Basin Friday afternoon, 56-50, in the Skyhawks season opening game.
"We were proud of our team for taking a step in growing together that second half," said head coach
Jason Flores. "Alyssa (Yocky) and Ande (Lampert) stepped in as returners and gave us the calmness and good play we needed and then we had some good contributions from of our newcomers."
FLC opened the first half netting only 8-of-33 field goals (.242) but made 13-of-33 field goals (.394) in the second half to outscore the Falcons, 37-22.
Briana Clah led FLC with 14 points and five assists.
Kayla Herrera made her Skyhawks debut with a double-double, recording 11 points and 10 rebounds. She added two steals and two blocked shots.
Alyssa Yocky sank 5-of-11 field goals as part of her 12 points. She also pulled down seven rebounds.
Ande Lampert was one point short of a double-double. She finished the game with 10 rebounds, nine points and two assists.
In four quarters, the Skyhawks made 21-of-66 field goals (.318), 11-of-19 free throws (.579) and 3-of-18 three-point field goals (.167).
FLC will play host team Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
