COLORADO SPRINGS – November 7, 2016 – Playing in their final home match of the season, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team rallied past Westminster College Monday night at Whalen Gymnasium, 3-2.
FLC won the first set, 25-18, before dropping the next two sets, 25-20 and 26-24. FLC evened the match in set four, 25-19, before sealing the win in set five, 15-11.
In the final set of the match, the Skyhawks
Delaney Scanlan rattled off six straight points for the win, including two aces. Scanlan served an ace to tie the set at 11 all.
Bailey Longacre recorded the next point on a kill before Scanlan served her third ace of the set to give FLC a 13-11 lead. Longacre finished the set with back-to-back kills on
Kendra Swackenberg's assists.
Fort Lewis recorded several match highs tonight, including most kills in a math (71) and most set assists in a match (66).
Longacre's 18 kills were a season high for a Skyhawk, and
Hannah Martinez' 15 kills were the second most in a match this season. Swackenberg also tallied a season high for the Skyhawks with 57 assists.
FLC finished the match with a .284 hitting mark. Longacre bested all players with a .455 hitting percentage after committing only three errors on 33 attempts.
Ally Dell'Amico posted 26 digs to lead four Skyhawks in double digit digs. FLC blocked nine attacks by the Griffins. Longacre assisted on five attacks followed by
Laine Waters and Swackenberg's three assisted blocks.
WC's Aubrey Louder led all players with 19 kills.
FLC will play their final match of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11 at New Mexico Highlands University. First serve will go out at 6 p.m.
