ALAMOSA, Colo. – February 28, 2016 – For the second straight game, a Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse player netted four goals in one game.
Sara McMahon found the back of the net four times in a 13-3 FLC win at Adams State University Sunday afternoon.
Ellie Carpenter opened the season with four goals at CSU-Pueblo on Saturday in a 14-8 win.
McMahon finished the game with seven points after assisting on three other goals. Carpenter posted her second straight hat trick after she scored three goals against the Grizzlies.
Jam Vertner and
Marissa DiCecco each scored two goals, followed by
Brooke Galle's and
Nikki Fry's goals.
The Skyhawks never trailed the Grizzlies and led by as many as 11 goals (12-1) after DiCecco scored at 15:48 in the second half. Vertner scored the game-winning goal on McMahon's assist with 19:11 left in the first half.
Carpenter led the Skyhawks with three ground balls and eight shots while
Ryann Pierce won a game high four draw controls.
FLC outshot ASU in shots (31-8), and shots on goal (27-6), picked up 17 ground balls to ASU's eight and won 12 of the 18 draw controls while only committing seven turnovers.
Fort Lewis (2-0, 0-0 RMAC) will open their conference season March 6 at Lindenwood University (2 p.m.) and March 8 at Rockhurst (2 p.m.).
