ST. CHARLES, Mo. – March 6, 2016 – Senior
Ellie Carpenter scored the first two goals of the game to give the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team a 2-0 lead over No. 3 Lindenwood University Sunday afternoon in the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game of the season. The Skyhawks would eventually fall to the nationally ranked Lions, 11-6.
Carpenter finished the game with four goals, scoring all three first half goals for FLC as they entered halftime trailing 4-3.
Jam Vertner tied the game at 4-4 in the second half at 28:24 before LU rattled off four straight goals to take an 8-4 lead. Carpenter scored her fourth goal of the game at 17:53 in the second half. Trailing 10-5 with less than two minutes left in regulation,
Carly Smoke scored the sixth and final goal of the game for FLC.
Alyssa Spencer played all 60 minutes in goal for the Skyhawks, allowing 11 goals and making six saves.
Ryann Pierce led FLC with three draw controls. Carpenter led the offense with four goals, five shots and four shots on goal.
Katlyne Duffey picked up five ground balls, followed by Carpenter and
Ashley Muckway's four groundballs.
FLC was outshot by Lindenwood, 25-17. Both teams picked up 23 ground balls each and turned the ball over 26 times.
Fort Lewis (2-1, 0-1 RMAC) will play at Rockhurst on Tuesday at 2 p.m. (MST).
