Lacrosse Falls to No. 8 Lock Haven, 14-6

DENVER, Colo. – March 11, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 8 Lock Haven University Friday afternoon in  Denver, Colo., 14-6.  The Skyhawks faced the Bald Eagles in a neutral site game at Regis University in Denver, Colo.
 
LHU struck quick just 47 seconds into the game with a goal from Rachel Engler.  Ellie Carpenter netted FLC's first goal of the game at 24:51 to cut the lead to 2-1.
 
LHU answered with six straight goals in the next eight minutes, but Rebecca Miller, Jam Vertner and Ryann Pierce finished the half scoring three consecutive goals.  FLC trailed LHU at the half, 8-4.
 
The Bald Eagles opened the second half scoring five of their six goals in the first 22 minutes of the half. 
 
Trailing 13-4, Carpenter found the back of the net twice for her fifth straight hat trick of the season.
 
Engler led both teams with five goals.
 
Carpenter scored three of FLC's six goals and tied with Pierce for the team lead in shots (five).
 
Megan Longtain and Katlyne Duffey each picked up a team high five ground balls.  Longtain added a team high three caused turnovers while Carpenter won five of the Skyhawks 10 draw controls.
 
Alyssa Spencer played all 60 minutes between the posts, allowing 14 goals and making six saves.
 
The Bald Eagles outshot FLC, 24-20, and 20-19 shots on goal.  The Skyhawks forced LHU into committing 21 turnovers.  FLC won the ground game, picking up 24 ground balls to LHU's 19.
 
FLC is 3-2 on the year.  Both losses have come to top 25 teams.  The Skyhawks will open their home season next Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Oklahoma Baptist University.
