WICHITA FALLS, Texas – March 13, 2016 – The historic season for the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks came to a close Sunday afternoon against No. 16 Angelo State University. FLC fell to the Rams, 87-66, in the semifinal round of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament, hosted by Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Skyhawks close the year with an overall record of 28-4 and a final national ranking of No. 4. The 28 wins are the most in program history, as are the 24 regular season wins. The Skyhawks four losses are the fewest in school history and the No. 4 national ranking is the highest the program has ever been ranked.
FLC led 40-34 at the half after making 45.2 percent from the floor and 8-of-16 from long range. The Skyhawks cooled off in the second half, hitting only 24.2 percent in field goals (8-of-33) and 2-of-12 from three-point range. FLC finished the game shooting 34.4 percent from the floor, marking their lowest field goal shooting percentage this season and only the second time this year they shot less than 40 percent.
Joshua Blaylock and
Kody Salcido led the Skyhawks offense with 13 points each. Salcido made 6-of-9 from the floor and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the year.
All five Rams' starters scored in double figures with Quay King leading all scorers with 25 points. King made 9-of-11 from the floor and 7-of-9 from long range.
The Skyhawks are 4-9 all-time in NCAA post-season play.
