SALT LAKE CITY – March 24, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team scored seven of their 12 goals in the second half to post a 12-8 win at Westminster College Thursday afternoon. The win improves the Skyhawks record to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Griffins move to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in league games.
FLC took their first lead of the game when
Marissa DiCecco scored with 18 seconds left in the half to give the Skyhawks a 5-4 lead.
Sara McMahon scored all three of her goals in the second half.
Ellie Carpenter led all scorers with four points (two goals, two assists). DiCecco finished the game with two goals and an assist.
McMahon, Carpenter and DiCecco combined to score seven of the Skyhawks 12 goals. Also finding the back of the net for FLC were
Kelli Warmouth,
Brooke Galle,
Jam Vertner,
Ryann Pierce and
Nikki Fry.
Carpenter netted the game-winning goal with 13:08 left in regulation.
Taylor Cabrera and
Rebecca Miller posted two points each after assisting on four goals.
Cabrera led FLC with four ground balls. Warmouth and
Katlyne Duffey added three ground balls, and Duffey caused a team high five turnovers.
Alyssa Spencer played all 60 minutes in goal, making seven saves.
Fort Lewis led the Griffins in shots (25-18), shots on goal (17-15) and ground balls (19-14).
The Skyhawks will play at Colorado Mesa University Saturday at 1 p.m.
