Vertner, Carpenter Score Hat Tricks in RMAC Win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – March 8, 2016 – Jam Vertner and Ellie Carpenter teamed up to record six of the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse's 11 goals Tuesday afternoon in an 11-3 win at Rockhurst University.  The game, which was delayed nearly an hour due to thunderstorms in the area, was the Skyhawks first win of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season.

FLC, who received votes in this week's national IWLCA poll, improves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in league games.  Rockhurst moves to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the RMAC.

Marissa DiCecco assisted on the Skyhawks first two goals by Vertner (26:50) and Carpenter (25:37).  Carpenter's second goal of the game came at 15:42 in the first half before Ryann Pierce scored on a free position shot at 12:09.  Vertner then scored back-to-back goals followed by Nikki Fry's third goal of the season with 1:12 left in the first half to give FLC a 7-0 lead at halftime.

Pierce and Carpenter struck again to open the second half before Rockhurst scored two straight goals to prevent from being shut out.  Taylor Cabrera scored her first goal of the season with 4:35 left in regulation.  With 73 seconds left in the game, Kelli Warmouth netted her first career goal to seal the win for FLC.

FLC outshot the Hawks, 25-14, picked up 23 ground balls to RU's 15, and won 10 of the 17 draw controls.

Carpenter, who has now recorded at least three goals in all four games this season, tied Vertner for most shots on the team (four).  Fry added three shots to go with her game high four ground balls.

Alyssa Spencer earned her third win of the season after stopping three shots on goal and allowing one goal in 47:53 between the posts.

The Skyhawks will travel to Denver to play Lock Haven University on March 11 at 12 p.m.
