DENVER – April 15, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College softball team opened Friday's RMAC pod with two losses at Regis University Softball Field. The Skyhawks dropped the morning game, 10-2 in five innings to host team Regis, before falling to CSU-Pueblo in nine innings, 8-7.
Regis scored three runs in the first inning but FLC cut the lead down to two runs in the top of the second.
Lauren Caldwell hit her first home run of the season to score
Angelique Elemen and bring the Skyhawks within one run of the Rangers, 3-2.
RU would score seven runs in the next four innings to run-rule the Skyhawks, 10-2.
The Skyhawks notched five hits against the Rangers. Caldwell finished going 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs batted in and one run scored.
Olivia Johnson pitched the entire game for the Skyhawks, allowing 10 runs on 12 hits with seven walks and one strikeout.
After trailing 3-0 in the first inning of game two, the Skyhawks cut the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second. With two outs and runners on first and third,
Adriana Rosthenhausler doubled to left field to bring in
Mandy Owens.
Tehenia Telliano then hit a single to bring home
Missy Fundora.
CSU-Pueblo added one run in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Skyhawks responded in the fourth inning with three runs to take a 5-4 lead. Elemen scored Telliano and Rosthenhausler on a triple to right center.
Jeovanna Rios singled to left field that scored Elemen for the go-ahead run.
The Skyhawks increased their lead to three runs, 7-4, in the sixth inning. Telliano added her second run batted in of the game when she singled to plate Fundora. With two outs and the bases loaded,
Tristen Gilbert reached on a fielder's choice that scored Elemen.
The ThunerWolves would come back and tie the game in the seventh inning with three runs. After a scoreless eighth inning, CSUP scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning for the 8-7 win.
Victoria Johnson worked all nine innings in the circle, allowing eight runs on eight hits with eight walks and eight strikeouts.
Rios finished the game going 3-for-5 with one run batted in. Elemen tallied two hits, scored two runs and drove in two batters while Telliano went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in, two walks and one run scored.
FLC (13-30, 10-20 RMAC) is scheduled to play Regis on Saturday at 10 a.m. and CSU-Pueblo at 12 p.m.
