DURANGO, Colo. – April 22, 2016 – Competing against a nationally ranked team for the fourth time this season, the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team nearly upset 16
th-ranked Regis University Friday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field. The Skyhawks fell to the Rangers, 16-14.
Ellie Carpenter's goal with 25:44 left in regulation gave the Skyhawks a 12-11 lead but RU tied the game on a free position shot at 23:12 to knot the game at 12-12. The Rangers grabbed a 13-12 lead 62 seconds later before
Rebecca Miller scored her sixth goal of the season for the eighth tie of the game.
Regis closed the game out-scoring FLC 3-1 to earn the win.
With the loss, the Skyhawks move to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Regis improves to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in league games.
Sara McMahon and Carpenter each recorded a hat trick against the Rangers. Carpenter added an assist for a four points to tie
Jam Vertner's four points (one goal, three assists).
Ryann Pierce,
Marissa DiCecco, and
Rebecca Miller found the back of the net twice.
Taylor Cabrera and
Nikki Fry added assists as the Skyhawks notched seven assists on 14 goals.
RU edged FLC in shots, 29-25, and draw controls, 19-12. The Skyhawks picked up 11 ground balls to RU's 10.
Alyssa Spencer played all 60 minutes in goal and made four saves.
The Skyhawks will play host to Colorado State University-Pueblo on Sunday at 1 p.m.
