DURANGO, Colo. – April 24, 2016 – Playing their final games of the regular season, the Fort Lewis College softball team split against Adams State University Sunday afternoon on Senior Day. The doubleheader were the final career games for
Laura Ashe,
Missy Fundora,
Victoria Johnson,
Nikki Klepfer,
Kiley Raica and
Jeovanna Rios. FLC won game one, 6-3, before falling to the Grizzlies in game two, 4-3.
FLC trailed early in the first game after ASU plated three runs in the first inning.
Angelique Elemen hit a double to score
Adriana Rosthenhausler in the first inning to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Skyhawks scored their next five runs in the fifth inning. The first two Skyhawks to the plate recorded outs before Rosthenhausler,
Tehenia Telliano and Elemen loaded the bases.
Tristen Gilbert entered the game to pinch hit for Rios and drew a walk that scored Rosthenhausler.
Lauren Caldwell then hit a single to first base that brought home Telliano, followed by Klepfer's single that scored Elemen.
Mandy Owens finished the scoring spree with a double to left center that plated Caldwell and Rios.
Olivia Goldberg pitched the entire game to earn her second win of the season. She fanned two batters and surrendered three runs on 10 hits.
Caldwell went 3-for-3 at the plate with one run batted in and one run scored. Klepfer added two hits and a run batted in.
In game two, the Skyhawks notched a 1-0 lead in the third inning off of Owens' third home run of the season. Caldwell drove home another run in the fourth inning that scored
Denae Fisher.
ASU was put on the scoreboard in the fifth inning to cut the lead down to one, 2-1. Rios singled to center field in the sixth inning to score Rosthenhasuler for the third and final run of the game. The Grizzlies finished the seventh inning with three runs on three hits to earn the win, 4-3.
The Skyhawks were held to five hits in game two. Owens led FLC with one hit, one run batted in and one run scored.
Victoria Johnson pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits and fanning eight batters.
FLC finishes their season 15-32 overall and 12-22 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
