DURANGO – April 29, 2016 – Closing out the regular season at home, the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team posted an 18-3 win over Adams State University as three Skyhawks notched hat tricks Friday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field.
Ellie Carpenter,
Marissa DiCecco and
Brooke Galle each scored three goals.
FLC finished the regular season 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while winning four of five games at home.
The game also marked the final home game for eight Skyhawk seniors –
Ellie Carpenter,
Marissa DiCecco,
Katlyne Duffey,
Mac Harper, Sarah McMahon,
Natalie Mitchell,
Carly Smoke, and
Jam Vertner.
Leading 5-2 in the first half, the Skyhawks rattled off 12 straight goals to take their largest lead of the game, 17-2, with 8:26 left in regulation.
McMahon added two goals while Smoke,
Megan Longtain,
Rebecca Miller, Harper,
Taylor Cabrera and
Nikki Fry chipped in one goal each.
DiCecco and Carpenter attempted a game high six shots. Galle won five draw controls while Longtain, Duffey and
Ryanne Brust each picked up three ground balls.
FLC outshot the Grizzlies, 38-9, won 18 of 23 draw controls and picked up 20 ground balls to ASU's eight.
The Skyhawks are the No. 4 seed in the RMAC Tournament, hosted by Lindendwood University May 6-7. Fort Lewis will play top seed LU on Friday, May 6 at 1 p.m. (MDT).
