DURANGO, Colo. – Senior
Ellie Carpenter scored a career high five goals to lead the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team to a 15-7 win at home Sunday afternoon against Westminster College. Carpenter also added an assist for a game high six points.
FLC improves to 6-4 overall while the Griffins move to 2-6 on the year.
Taylor Cabrera scored the first goal of the game followed by Carpenter's hat trick.
Marissa DiCecco gave FLC a 5-0 lead with 22:26 left in the first half before WC scored their first goal of the game.
After a yellow card to the Griffins,
Kelli Warmouth took advantage and scored a man-up goal for a 6-1 lead.
Ryann Pierce added two more goals, while Cabrera and Carpenter each found the back of the net one more time, topped off by
Nikki Fry's goal with 5:43 left in the half to give FLC a commanding 11-1 lead at halftime.
The Griffins responded to score six of their seven goals in the second half, but FLC added four second half goals by Carpenter,
Carly Smoke,
Jam Vertner and
Aitana Rivera to seal the win. Rivera's goal with 49 ticks left in regulation marked her first career goal.
Alyssa Spencer improved to 6-4 between the posts after making seven saves.
Fort Lewis outshot Westminster, 35-14, and picked up 23 ground balls to WC's 13 while winning 13 of 24 draw controls.
FLC will return to action April 16 when they play host to Colorado Mesa University at 1 p.m.
