Men's Soccer Earns First Win of the Season, 4-2, at SMU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – September 11, 2016 – Churchill Onumonu's goal at 67:44 lifted the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team to their first win of the season with a 4-2 victory at St. Mary's University Sunday afternoon.
 
Before today's four goal performance, the Skyhawks had been held to three total goals in their first three games.
 
The Rattlers started the match with a quick goal just three minutes and 26 seconds into the game.  Tamino Kroeger tied the game with his second goal of the season at 20:06.
 
After a 1-1 halftime tie, SMU regained the lead at 53:48.  Five minutes later Nicolas Perez netted his first goal of the season when he cleaned up a rebound from SMU's keeper for the 2-2 tie.
 
Onumonu's second goal this season was assisted by Martin Lopez.  Lopez sealed the win at 85:29 when SMU's keeper left the box to charge the ball which resulted in an open net goal.
 
FLC out-shot SMU, 12-9, including 8-3 shots on goal. 
 
All three of Kroeger's shot attempts landed on goal.  Laurin Weiland added two shots and one shot on goal.
 
Elliot Chadderton returned to goal to make one save for his first win of the season.
 
The Skyhawks return home on Friday, Sept. 16 to play host to South Dakota School of Mines at 3 p.m., and Regis University on Sept. 18 at 2:30 p.m.
