NEWS & NOTES

Fort Lewis College won their first game of the season on Saturday at Adams State University in the 51st annual Musket Game.  The win was the Skyhawks second straight victory over the Grizzlies after defeating ASU in 2015, 51-10.

With the win, ASU leads the Musket series, 34-16-1, and the all-time series, 37-17-1.  The last time the Skyhawks defeated ASU on the road prior to Saturday's win was Oct. 23, 2010 (W, 17-14).

The Skyhawks held Adams State to 28 rushing yards on Saturday, the fewest allowed by any team in the RMAC this season.

Sophomore quarterback Bo Coleman recorded several career marks on Saturday against the Grizzlies, including first career start, first career rushing touchdown, first career passing touchdown, most completions in a game (11), most pass attempts in a game (14), and most passing yards in a game (155).

Running back PJ Hall rushed for a season high 157 yards on 20 carries, marking his eighth career game of at least 100 rushing yards.

Arealous Hughes caught a 63-yard pass from Coleman against the Grizzlies, the longest reception by any Skyhawk this season.

FLC recorded a possession time of 37 minutes and 39 seconds.  In the first half, the Skyhawks dominated the ball, holding it for over 22 of the 30 minutes (22:33).

Hall ranks fourth in the league in rushing yards with 91.3 yards per game.

Coleman's 135.1 passing efficiency rating is the fourth highest in the league.  Prior to Saturday's game, Coleman had taken 13 snaps in the first two games.

Wide receiver Jordan Gillen is eighth in the league in all-purpose yards with 96.3 per game.  Running back Drake Griffin is sixth overall with 106.7 all-purpose yards per game.

Defensively, OJ Thompson has recorded two sacks for a loss of 15 yards, ranking him eighth in the league in sacks.  Tyrell Thomas and Dre Cortez are tied for sixth in the RMAC in passes defended with four each.

Junior running back PJ Hall became only the third running back in school history to rack up at least 1,000 yards in a season (2015).  Hall carried the ball 230 times for 1,128 yards in 2015, the second most by any FLC back (Scott Stamper-1,206 yards, 1982 and Joe Moore-1,058 yards, 2000).  Hall needs 1,560 yards to tie the all-time rushing leader Joe Moore (3,566 yards, 2000-2004).

FLC's defense is one of the best in the conference. The Skyhawks lead the league in total defense (303.0 yards per game) and opponent first downs (17.3), second in scoring defense (24.0 points per game), rushing (95.3 yards per game) and kickoff coverage (40.6 net average), and they are fourth in passing defense (207.7 yards per game).

Fort Lewis is tops in the league in time of possession, recording an average time of 35 minutes and 21 seconds.

Saturday will mark the start of a three game home stand for the Skyhawks.  FLC will play host to Colorado Mesa University at 12 p.m.

The Mavericks, ranked No. 18 in the AFCA national poll, and Black Hills State are the only undefeated team in the league with a 3-0 record.

CMU leads the RMAC in field goals (8-of-9), and they are second in scoring (40.7 points per game), total offense (453.7 yards per game), passing offense (340.7 yards per game), and passing efficiency (169.5).

The Skyhawks are under the direction of head coach Ed Rifilato.  Rifilato is in his second term as head coach at FLC.  He was previously head coach of the Skyhawks from 2004-2009.

The 2016 season is Rifilato's 11th season with the Skyhawks football program.
