DURANGO, Colo. – September 23, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team opened their home season Friday night against University of Colorado Colorado Springs. The Mountain Lions edged the Skyhawks, 3-1.
Both teams move to 2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Skyhawks drop to 3-8 overall while UCCS won their seventh match of the season (7-4).
After falling in the first two sets (-23, -15), the Skyhawks came out strong after the intermission and posted a 25-17 third set win.
The fourth set went into extra points as UCCS came out with the win, 29-27.
Three Skyhawks recorded double digit kills.
Matisse Monty and
Maddie LeBlanc notched 11 kills each. LeBlanc hit .333 at the net after committing only two errors on 27 attempts.
Hannah Martinez added 10 kills to go with her eight digs.
Delaney Scanlan accounted for 41 of the Skyhawks 49 assists.
Ally Dell'Amico dug up 25 attacks and
Kendra Swackenberg added 14 digs.
LeBlanc led the Skyhawks defensively at the net with three solo blocks and seven block assists.
UCCS' Taylor Hamilton led both teams with 18 kills.
FLC will play host to MSU Denver Saturday night at 5 p.m.
