Women’s Soccer Dominates UCCS, 6-2

COLORADO SPRINGS – September 30, 2016 – Jenna Brown and Alicia Sanchez each scored two goals to lead the Fort Lewis College women's soccer scoring barrage at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday night, 6-2.

"It was a pretty close game going into the half, 2-1," said head coach Jimmy Hall.  "And then in the second half I felt we just did a great job of getting quality opportunities in front of the goal.  I thought the game was really fast; the surface was wet and it was really fun for us.  We really enjoy playing at that speed.  It was an exciting, good, attacking game."

The Skyhawks improve to 4-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  UCCS drops to 1-7-0 overall and 1-3-0 in RMAC matches.

FLC remains undefeated at UCCS, 7-0-0.  The Skyhawks now lead the all-time series, 15-2-0.

UCCS took the early lead just 10 minutes into the game on a goal from Bailee Jameson.

Jenna Brown scored her first goal of the season and the equalizer at 11:51 when she picked up a rebound off the goalkeeper.

Renee Terrell gave FLC a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute when she tapped it in from Andonia Apergis' assist.

Leading 2-1 at halftime, Shayla Malecki gave the Skyhawks a two goal lead, 3-1, when she found the back of the net for the fifth time the season.  The goal also proved to be the game-winning goal, her third this season.

Michaela Mansfield brought UCCS to within one goal, 3-2, at 58:28, but Alicia Sanchez scored her first of two goals on the night at 59:11 to extend the lead back to two goals, 4-2.

Courtney Riley assisted on Jenna Brown's second goal against the Mountain Lions at 77:09, before Sanchez added an insurance goal at 81:03.

Both teams combined for 38 shots in the game with FLC accounting for 18 shots.  Twelve of the Skyhawks goals landed on target.

Kaylee Mickens made eight saves in 90 minutes to earn the win.

Sanchez finished with a team high four shots.  Sanchez, Sierra Utton, Malecki, Brown, Keisha Green and Terrell each tallied two shots on target.
