DURANGO, Colo. – October 1, 2017 –
Meredith Curran's goal at 64:04 proved to be the game-winning goal Sunday afternoon as the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Western State Colorado University at Dirks Field.
The win was the first victory for the Skyhawks on Dirks Field this season as they move to 2-6-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mountaineers even their overall record to 4-4-1, and 3-2-0 in league matches.
The two goals scored are the most FLC has scored since the season opener at Eastern New Mexico University (T, 2-2).
Renee Terrell played a long ball from goalkeeper
Ali Miller at 30:25 to score the first goal of the game. Curran's game-winning goal came from a rebound off of Terrell's shot attempt.
Western State prevented the shutout in the 67
th minute on a one-on-one with Miller.
Five Skyhawks attempted at least two shots against the Mountaineers. Both of Curran's and
Emma Patron's attempts landed on target.
Miller made six saves between the posts to improve to 2-6-1 on the season.
FLC will travel to Black Hills State University on Oct. 6 for a 3 p.m. match.
